CULTURAL HERITAGE

A UNESCO World Heritage site that once served as Guatemala’s capital city, Antigua is a prime example of the country’s aesthetics. Spanish wealth can be seen in colonial houses, palaces and pretty parks that sit splendidly amongst narrow cobble stone streets. On market days they are full of native Mayans in traditional dress arriving from the highlands selling textiles, artisanal crafts and local cotton - a sight to behold amongst a breath-taking mountainous backdrop.

ENCOUNTER

CULTURAL CROSSROADS

Although the Spanish conquered Guatemala in the 16th century, its Mayan population survived, and today the country is home to the largest indigenous population in Latin America. This fusion of colonial Spanish influence and Maya culture has left behind a trail of stunning city architecture and elusive ancient cities.
