MYRIAD LAYERS OF WILDERNESS

Exquisite and abundant wildlife flourishes and can be explored from a select few of the most luxurious lodges and camps in Africa. Botswana offers both exclusivity and diversity of habitat, from the salt encrusted prehistoric Makgadikgadi Pans and the semi-arid Kalahari Desert to the green oasis of the Okavango Delta, all of which can only be accessed by light aircraft.

PEACE & WILDERNESS

Whilst its open grassland and thick riverine forest make up a different terrain to that of the Okavango, the Linyanti region is no less rewarding. The Reserve’s river and channels draw a huge array of wildlife, especially in the dry season (May-October). Large herds of elephant gather around the diminishing water as well as lion, leopard and even the elusive wild dog.

LESSER TRODDEN PATHS

During the dry season, the Kalahari savannah turns to gold making way for the resilient desert adapted species such as the brown hyena, the meerkat and the springbuck to roam the grassland. This hugely unexplored area is surprisingly beautiful, dotted with trees weighed down with weaver-bird nests and crossed with rivers. Enormous bull elephants roam the area, and the largest lions ever recorded, the Black-maned Kalahari Lions, are also found here. Gemsbok are typically seen atop a sand dune through a shimmering heat-haze, while birds of prey soar on thermals, searching for their next bite.

BOTSWANA ADVENTURES

TRAILBLAZING THE PANS

The dazzling Makgadikgadi Pans offer an extraordinary contrast to Botswana’s wetlands. The white pans stretch out, shimmering into an endless horizon - the landscape is a stunning backdrop to sumptuous old world style camps, private quad biking expeditions and serious horse riding safaris. Adventurers can embark on an expedition to the magnificent Kubu Island for sleep outs amongst the ancient baobabs and granite boulders under the bright Milky Way. Close encounters with friendly meerkats are possible throughout the year and during March and April visitors can witness large numbers of migrating zebra in this isolating wilderness.

SUPERLATIVE GAME VIEWING

Often referred to as the ‘jewel in Botswana’s crown,’ the Okavango Delta’s marble-like pools of its vast winding waterways are a tremendous sight from above. It’s not only the largest inland delta in the world but its huge diversity of game lends itself to being one of the best safari experiences in Africa. Beyond game drives, venture out with your guide on the waterways in a mokoro (dugout canoe) paddling through llala palm studded floodplains to investigate one of the world’s most fascinating ecosystems.
